As a City Clerk, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and certified Municipal Administrator (RMA), Ferne has created multiple programs and templates including on-boarding and exit processes, standard operating procedures and policies, communications plans, bylaws, public engagement programs, and negotiated collective bargaining agreements.

From bookkeeping for small businesses to creating sustainable fiscal management plans, asset management plans (NAMS/IPWEA certified in Asset Management), and creating and managing multi-million dollar budgets, Ferne has a strong understanding of good finance and sustainability.

On Writing and Communications

She has studied writing, editing and communications as a craft and treat them as the art they are. She places a significant emphasis on review and critique, with actionable and constructive feedback, and just as importantly, in reading the work of others for examples that you can learn from. As a communications professional, she has written all manner of public service announcements, press releases, articles, bylaws, newsletters, recommendations, reports, online content, ad copy, and public education materials. She provides written content that is meaningful, and easily digestible.

On Design

With almost 20 years of experience in graphic design and desktop publishing, she's a master in the Adobe Creative Cloud as well as simpler platforms like Canva. From creating provincial ad campaigns, tradeshow promotions, posters and event tickets to designing teachers resources, social media graphics, restaurant menus, websites, t-shirt and mug designs, and board game components, there's not much she hasn't done.

On Life

Ferne is a science fiction and fantasy geek who can often be found reading, lost in a book, or writing one. Painting is a passion that feeds her soul. Achieving balance in life is of utmost importance and essential for quality of life. Self-care comes first, family comes second and everything else comes after.
